MAY 2019
FROM THE RECTOR
We had our Girl’s Brigade
Display on Saturday 6th April. It was an enjoyable evening, as
always, with the girls performing their various numbers. Thank you to the
leaders for all they do during the year with the girls. Our Boy’s
Brigade Display was held on Sat 13th
April and was an equally enjoyable evening. Well done to the boys and to their
leaders for putting on a great night.
On Wednesday 10th April after our Lenten Service I dusted the
buttresses of the Church arches and window sills and also swept away the high
up cobwebs prior to the cleaning of the
Church on Thurs 11th which was capably completed by a group of
ladies and a gentleman. Thank you to Vivienne and Regina for arranging the work
party when the church was given a good cleaning and polishing, the evidence of
which was apparent with the nice smell of polish when walking into the Church
afterwards.
We had services on each Wednesday of Lent using BACI’s Lenten Course and had a service each
morning of Holy Week starting with our Palm / Passion Sunday service. Joe
Geoghegan of Vine Mass included us in their Ecumenical Passion Week and we had
the showing of the film ‘Jesus comes to Jerusalem’ on Monday 15th at
6.15pm. On Good Friday we had services in the Church at 10.00am and 8.00pm and
we welcomed Vine Mass to our graveyard where I used our C of I prayer book in
leading prayers. Also on Good Friday we had the ‘Good Friday Walk of
Compassion’ around Tallaght Village beginning at the Priory grounds, stopping
at the various helping agencies around the Village with each organization
giving a presentation on their work on the big screen in St. Maelruain’s Church
before our service at 8pm.
We had a lovely, joyful Easter Service to celebrate the risen Lord.
Thank you to the ladies who so beautifully turned the church yellow with
flowers for Easter Sunday, it really did look fabulous.
During a day or two away after Easter we were delighted to welcome an Ecumenical Cross Cultural visit from the
Munich suburb of Ottobrunn to the Church on Tuesday 23rd when I answered
questions on faith in Ireland. There were four parishioners in attendance, two
of whom are familiar with Munich and were happy to connect with our visitors
which was appreciated by our guests.
Saturday 27th was the date organized to erect signs for our
upcoming Summer Sale, I was
disappointed by the lack of volunteers and as a result I am a bit concerned
about the setting up of the hall for the sale on Friday 10th. As the
hall is rented out in the morning we cannot set the hall up until 11.30am. We need help setting up the trestle tables
for the Sale, this is one of our biggest fund raisers of the year so please
help if you can.
I had commiserated
with the local Mosque in Tallaght following the Christchurch atrocity, as
previously mentioned, so was delighted to get a call from the Imam before
Friday prayer after the Easter bombings in Sri
Lanka which geographically isn’t far from Kerala in Southern India where
members of our Indian congregation come from. I encouraged the Imman to come to
Church on Sunday and while they arrived late and were hesitant to interrupt the
service they joined us for coffee in the hall following our family service.
Please come
along to our Summer Sale and bring your family and friends on Saturday 11th
May, I am looking forward to seeing you then!
God
Bless
William.
FLOWER GUILD Thank you to
the ladies who turned up to help decorate the Church for Easter. They deserve a
special thank you as numbers were so low. Thank you too to the gentleman from
the Parish who brought us so many beautiful yellow flowers on the morning. The
Church looked beautiful and the colours very fitting for Easter.
EASTER VESTRY
The
Easter Vestry (Parish AGM) will take place this year on Sunday 12th
May after a shortened Service. This is an opportunity for you to have your say
in the running of the parish so please come along and see how your parish is
doing.
CONFIRMATION The date
for St. Maelruain’s Confirmation has be set for Sunday 9th June
(Pentecost Sunday), we have five candidates preparing for Confirmation, please
pray for Beyonce, Jake, Lauren, Nathan and Tirza as they prepare for their

SUMMER
SALE The
date for the Summer Sale has been set for Saturday 11th May at 10am,
it’s not too late to donate to the sale so clear out your cupboards / garages /
sheds! Any unwanted gifts? We will have all the usual stalls, raffle, teas and refreshments….volunteers always needed,
please do what you can to make our Summer Sale a great success! Most importantly,
come on the day!
MOTHER’S UNION / FAMILIES
We had our AGM and Bring
and Buy on Monday 8th April. There was quite a good turn out and
everything went well. We had a chat about what people would like on next year's
programme and also about an outing in June. After some discussion it was
decided to go to Newbridge Silver on Saturday 15th June. The plan is to share cars and leave
Tallaght 10.30/ 11am. Go to Newbridge Silver and have a tour of the factory and
the style icons. Lunch there and then a bit of shopping over the road in the
Whitewater Shopping Centre. Dinner on the way home in the Keadeen
Hotel which is also in Newbridge. Please give your name to Valerie if you
would like to go. Times and finer details will be announced when arranged. Also
please let us know if you would be willing to drive as we would need a few
drivers depending on numbers. The decision to drive ourselves was made due to
the high cost of hiring a bus. Please come along and we can all have a
great day out together.
On a personal note I would like to thank Vivienne Bright our
Treasurer, Hillary Armstrong our Secretary and the rest of our Committee;
Eileen Dunne and Yvonne McGlynn for their hard work through the year to
help things run smoothly and to those who take it in turn to supply the tea
each month. Thanks again and look forward to our outing in June. Valerie

TALLAGHT TIDY TOWN
Following
on from their inaugural meeting on Sat 13th April Tallaght TidyTown
are having a meeting on Thursday 9th May in Technological University
Dublin (ITT) in preparation for this years TidyTown competition. The ethos of Tidy Town is for people to find
a sense of inclusion in their communities, encouraging and welcoming young and
old to get involved and to show that we all have something to offer, no matter
how big or small that contribution is. It is no longer just about ‘prettying’
up our town but to consider environmental and historical issues by our Church as
well as making sure the Village is kept attractive to visit. Why not come along
to the meeting on 9th May and give your input to this year’s
competition?
