FROM THE RECTOR On Friday 1st November we hosted a concert in the Church featuring DAMS (Dominican Active Men’s Social) in aid of Motor Neuron Disease, it was a lovely afternoon of music and it was heartening to see the event so well supported.
We welcomed TUD (Tallaght Campus)  to our church on 8th November for their Remembrance Service for the students and staff of the college who have passed away. Also on that day I attended the Remembrance Service in Kiltipper Nursing Home for residents who have passed way in the last year.

I attended the annual Tallaght Person of the year Awards on Sat 16th November in the Red Cow Inn, congratulations to our own Mary Lucas who was nominated in the Arts and Culture section for running our Crafty Chatters Group, it was a lovely evening as always and a pleasure to see those who give so much to the community to be acknowledged in a public way.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all the readers of the Newsletter  a joyous Christmas and a healthy and happy New Year                                                                                                                                               William.

CONDONLENCES Our deepest sympathies go to parishioner Mary Lucas whose sister in law, Florence Lucas from Monkstown, passed away on 4th November.

FLOWER GUILD The Church will be decorated for Christmas on Friday 13th  Dec from 10 am to 12pm.
We would welcome donations of flowers and greenery or flower arrangements which can be brought on the morning or left with Hazel by arrangement. We also need lots of help and all are rewarded by William and Valerie who kindly provide tea, coffee and biscuits while we work. It’s always a very sociable morning with plenty of chat. No experience necessary, just come along and enjoy the decorating.

Due to bereavements and people moving out of the parish, we are looking for some new faces to join the Flower Guild in order to provide the Church flowers every week during the year. We work in pairs and commit to providing flowers one month of the year, which really amounts to two weeks each, as the month is shared. The flowers need to be checked weekly and fresh ones provided, where necessary, during the month for which you’re responsible. You don’t need to be a “flower arranger” and there’s always someone to help. Perhaps you’d consider providing flowers in memory of a loved  one, which some of our members already do. If you can help, please come along on Friday 13th  or call Regina (0861255161) Men welcome too!

Thank you to all the ladies for all your help and goodwill during the year. It’s much appreciated. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all. December flowers ....Carol Laughlin and Audrey Fletcher January flowers......Alison Kenealy and Eve Hutchinson

BOY’S BRIGADE Our annual enrolment service took place on Sunday 17th November and I was delighted with the turnout from our boys. I’d like to say a huge thank you to the parents for providing cakes and biscuits for the refreshments on the day and also to Barbra Barrett and Lorna Carroll for looking after the refreshments.

A number of our Company boys joined forces with the 7th Dublin Company Coolock and competed in the Masterteam and Badminton competitions in Newtownabbey and Portadown. Alan Privett from the 7th was kind enough to lead the convoy up and back and the boys thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

On the night of the Christmas Sing-A-Long the Junior and Anchor section boys congregated in the small hall and made some lovely festive arts and crafts while our Company section boys had a movie night upstairs in the main hall. The 2nd Dublin were also delighted to host the Battalion Junior Section Quiz competition the following night in the small hall. There were a good variety of questions and the boys enjoyed some well-earned pizza and goodies.

We will be finishing up on Friday 13th December with our annual Christmas party. This year the boys will be ice skating before heading back to the hall for some food and games. Provisionally we will be starting back on the 24th January 2020. As I mentioned before we are actively looking for new boys and as the only Company on the south side of the city we would be delighted to welcome any members no matter the Parish. If you’re interested please contact the Parish or email: 2nddublinbb@gmail.com.

Finally on behalf of the 2nd Dublin Company we would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We will see you in 2020.                                                                                         Evan

MOTHERS UNION  Our November meeting was a talk on  first aid by two representatives from  St John’s Ambulance. They gave us a very interesting talk on many things including a demonstration of how to do CPR which we all hope we'll never have to use but is very useful to know. We had a record turn out which was great to see including a few men so if you ever hear of anything that interests you on our programme you're very welcome to come along. We had a retiring collection which came to €70 aprox which the representatives of the St John’s Ambulance  were very grateful for.

Our December meeting is to The Civic Theatre on Friday 13 Dec at 6.30pm to see ‘Snow White’. We will be meeting for something to eat for at 5pm. If you would like to go please let me know ASAP as I have to give final numbers to The Civic very soon. Saoirse are looking for black bags for December and it might be nice, if it was possible, to send something festive as well. We have sent something festive in previous years and it is always appreciated.  Saoirse are always very appreciative of our on going support and contributions. Looking forward into the New Year and our January meeting will be to 50/50 in Templeouge meeting at 6.30pm for the early bird menu. Please let me know if you would like to go. May I wish you all a very happy Christmas and God's blessings for the New Year.  Thanks - Valerie.
