FROM THE RECTOR On 9th
and 10th October I welcomed two groups of students from Mount Seskin
Community College, one group of Junior
Cert religion students with specific questions about our denomination and the
other group of transition year students studying the history of Tallaght.
I attended
an interfaith mental health prayer service in St. Mary’s Priory in Tallaght
Village on 30th September I read the Genesis reading ‘Let there be
light’ which I feel was relevant in the context of the prayer service for those
suffering from mental health issues, perhaps if the light of God shone on our
lives it would have a healing effect.
We had our
harvest services on Sunday 7th October, Rev Avril preached at our
Children’s Harvest at the 11am service. She had a ‘thank you tree’ and handed
out paper leaves for the congregation to write what they were thankful for in
their lives to attach to the tree which we placed at the bottom of the aisle
for our 3pm Harvest Service. We were delighted to welcome Rev Rob Clements to
preach at our afternoon service. We had a large amount of people from the wider
community with most of the local parishes represented. I would like to thank
the ladies who so beautifully decorated the Church for harvest, to those who
donated fruit, veg, flowers and greenery and for the supper after the service.
The
following Sunday I was invited to preach at the Harvest Service in the Mageough
by my predecessor to St. Maelruain’s, Rev Robert Kingston, who is the Mageough
chaplain. I preached on the theme of ‘The Importance of Being Thankful’ which
was personally poignant to myself and my family as my mother- in- law, Eithne,
passed away six months ago after over a decade living in the Mageough. We are very grateful to the Mageough
community for the happy life Eithne had in her final years. It was lovely to
meet with her friends and neighbours after the service.
On 30th
October we hosted the ITT Business Prize Awards. After over 25 years hosting
the awards in our Church this was the last time the awards were presented by the
college in its present format as the Institute of Technology Tallaght as the
college amalgamates with DIT and ITB
(Blanchardstown) to become the new Technological University Dublin in January
2019, exciting times for the Tallaght campus.
God Bless William.
BABTISM Nora Abigail
Armstrong daughter of Gary Armstrong and Emma Coughlan was baptised on 6th
October. We welcome Nora into Christ’s flock and pray for her and her family as
she begins her Christian life.

FLOWER GUILD Very many thanks to the ladies that decorated the
Church for the Harvest. Thank you also to those who donated flowers and fruit.
The Church looked beautiful. With life being so busy for everyone, we
really appreciate all the help we can get for these occasions as well as every
month.
It's
always an enjoyable morning and a chance to catch up for a chat and a cup of
tea while we work. All are welcome to join us and we are always looking for new
people to help. No experience necessary! Regina.
SCHOOL NEWS The school has had a busy few weeks! We had a
Department of Education and Skills whole school Evaluation – Management,
Leadership and Learning during the week of 1st October. During that
week the Inspector visited all the classrooms to look at the teachers and
pupils work. He also met with the Parents Association, Board of Management,
Principal, Deputy Principal and teachers to discuss how the school is run. He
also looked at key school documents. We look forward to the report in the New
Year as we continue to strive in St. Maelruain’s to create a learning
environment where every child is respected and they can be the best version of
themselves.
Before
we broke up for half term and in the run up to Halloween we had a ‘Spooky
Walk’. The children dressed up and took part in the walk and were joined by
parents and grandparents.
The
extra curriculum activities continue with the children taking part in swimming,
tag rugby, dancing and Gaelic. The pupils in 5th and 6th
class are taking part in SDCC’s Marathon Walk. Every day
they run/jog or walk a set distance. These distances add up to a total of the distance
covered in the Marathon over 8 weeks. They will run the final mile in Morton
Stadium on Wednesday 14th of November. A great achievement.
