May 2017
FROM THE RECTOR
On 1st April
our Girl’s Brigade Company had their display in the Parish Centre, it was a
lovely afternoon, the girl’s all performed beautifully and it was great to meet
up with all involved and to welcome members of the GB ‘family’. The Girls’ Brigade has been an important part of the St Maelruain’s
Parish Community for a long time now – over 40 years. They are always
looking for new members, girls aged from 3 years old upwards, to join. If
you are interested or would like some more information, please contact Captain
Fiona Monahan on 086 8519163.
Now and then performed
their latest show Garvin Byrne’s
‘Messiah’ in the Priory in the week before Holy Week. It was a modern
Messiah and included rapping and the theme of the musical was the tension
between Jesus and the Pharisees. Members of our Music Group were involved with
Valerie singing in the ‘pits’ and Amy on stage along with Richard and Laura
Devine back stage and Ken Cooper who gave a great performance as one of the
Pharisees. It was a thoroughly enjoyable production and I would encourage
people to become involved or attend their next production before Easter in
2018.
We finished our BACI
Lenten studies on God’s Heart for Migrants, it reminded us that in the Bible,
God’s people were always on the move to such an extent that the law spoke of
how to treat immigrants. As I continue to study the Bible it never fails to
remind me of how relevant it is, still today, in our everyday lives. We had
lovely Easter Services and thank you very much to the ladies for decorating the
Church so beautifully for the Services.
Saturday 22nd
was the date of our Boy’s Brigade Company’s annual display in the Parish
Centre. Similarly to the GB display it was a lovely event and great to meet up
with all the BB ‘family’! As with the GB, BB is an important part of the Parish
Community and they are always looking for new recruits. If you have a boy who
you think would enjoy Boy’s Brigade please get in touch with the parish office
for more information.
It is that time of year again when the dreaded exams
are already here or looming. I would like to wish all those sitting second and
third level exams every success and God’s blessing with their future
endeavours.
God bless William.

It was
with great sadness that the funeral of Imelda Bird took place here in St.
Maelruain’s on Thursday 20th April.

Ruth, David and Hazel and to their extended family and friends.

FLOWER GUILD
Thank
you to all the ladies that turned up to help decorate the Church for Easter and
to those who donated flowers too. The Church looked beautiful on Easter Sunday
and without your help, this wouldn't be possible.
We were all shocked and so upset to hear of the passing of our dear friend Imelda Bird on Easter Monday. Imelda was a member of the flower guild and had been a loyal member for many years. We will miss her. We were delighted that the Easter flowers were still in place for Imelda's funeral on Thursday.

The
flowers in the Church for May will be donated and arranged by Liz Norris and
Mary Lucas. Thanks you ladies!
We would welcome volunteers to the flower guild. It involves donating and putting flowers for one month, shared with another person. There's always help available and you don't need any experience as a flower arranger.
Contact Regina at 0861255161 if you would like to help.
MOTHER’S UNION / FAMILIES FIRST
Our last meeting was on Monday 10th April and it was
our AGM and ‘Bring and Buy’. It was a very successful evening and we had an

thank you to all who were willing to go forward. We also had a ‘Bring and Buy’
with plenty of bargains going and we finished off the evening with a cup of tea
and some goodies.
Instead of a
day outing this year we are going to go to 'Guys and Dolls' in the Civic Theatre
and are going for a meal beforehand. It's on Saturday 13th
May, meeting at 5.30pm. I have a good few on the list so if anybody wants
to go please get in touch with me as soon as you can. This is open to everyone
so do come along. Tickets for the show are €17 to be paid asap. The meal will
be paid for on the night. Everyone is welcome so let me know if you wish
to go, thanks Valerie.
